Unintended consequences take many forms. The labor pool is growing slowly, but those working will earn more. Ever since the industrial revolution, automation has taken over for people. That has only been accelerated by the high tech world in which we live and work now. Does anyone remember delivery services? Now it’s a push of a send button. Some suggest entire industries will be taken over by robotic machinery operated by “thinking robots.” But, there’s more to this. There’s declining birthrates impacting the U.S.

In 2014, massive numbers of jobs requiring computer or math proficiency went unfilled. So, those who are educate and skilled will earn more money as grateful companies snap them up. We’d suggest encouraging your association to have more education and training events to prepare them for well-paying careers.
